Over the last few years, comedy has become a very important part of popular culture. While lots of comedians still begin their careers in the world of stand up, there’s now plenty of opportunity to also find success in the movie business. However, as comedy become more and more popular in the mainstream, there seems to be a growing number of comedians who well, simply aren’t that funny. Let’s face it, everyone has seen a comedy movie and walked out feeling extremely disappointed. Sure, comedy is subjective, and there are some people who find certain things funny, and some who can’t find the humor at all, but that doesn’t change the fact that some people aren’t as funny as they’re cracked up to be. Here are 10 comedians who are famous but shouldn’t be.
Carrot Top
Carrot Top definitely isn’t anywhere near as famous as he used to be, but his red hair still makes him very recognizable. Despite the fact that he gained a considerable amount of fame during the 90s and early 2000s, most people were wondering why people loved him so much. Seriously, he’s always been one of those people whose name and face you know, but you’re not exactly sure from where or why.

Jeff Dunham
A large part of Jeff Dunham’s fame probably has a lot to do with the fact that he’s also a ventriloquist, and let’s face it, talking without moving your lips isn’t an easy thing to do. But as a comedian, Dunham is often listed as one of the most overrated in the industry. One Internet user even stated, “Gimmicky and uses stale stereotypes, doing nothing new with it. You can anticipate his jokes ahead of time. Nothing strikes me as clever. Not even cheap shock in his bits. Not sure where people are finding the comedy seems to be pandering to lowest common denominator.”

Russell Peters
When it comes to comedy, there’s always been a fine line between funny and offensive, and most comedians usually toe the line very closely. However, Russell Peters is one of those comedians that most people just find flat-out offensive. Peters, whose parents were born in India, has even made offensive comments about Indians, even stating that he doesn’t consider himself Indian. Although Russell certainly does have a fan base, those who don’t like him really have a hard time understanding what anyone sees in his work.

Mike Myers
Mike Myers is another person whose star is nowhere near as bright as it used to be. But even with that being said, he’s definitely responsible for some pretty big comedy films including the Austin Powers franchise, but let’s be real, he’s actually more annoying than funny – and rumor around the industry is that he’s somewhat of a jerk.

Larry The Cable Guy
Larry the Cable Guy definitely feeds into the stereotype of a southern ‘redneck’ and while some people think he’s hilarious, others think he’s a little on the ridiculous side. According to one Internet user who isn’t a fan of Larry’s southern shtick, “Awful comedian. Definitely overrated. Does nothing to challenge his audience and relies entirely on the demographic of “dumb, simple rednecks” which gives the rest of the country a very one-sided, negative perception of southerners. Definitely overrated.”

Tracy Morgan
Many people may be surprised to see Tracy Morgan on the list. After all, he’s one of the most popular comedians in the business, and there’s no doubt that he’s worked hard to earn his fame. However, as most people know, popularity doesn’t always equate to talent, and while there’s no way to deny that Tracy Morgan definitely has some very funny moments, he’s not usually as funny as you’d expect a famous comedian to be. Some people even say he relies way too heavily on jokes about sex and gay people, and after a while it just gets old.

Sarah Silverman
Over the last several years, Sarah Silverman has definitely become more well-known in the comedy/entertainment industry. She’s appeared in several on-screen productions, and even had her own show, The Sarah Silverman Program, which aired from 2007 to 2010. So, with that being said, it’s clear that there are plenty of people out there who love her work. On the other hand; however, there are plenty of people who could do without Sarah. Some believe she relies too heavily on Jewish jokes, and that she doesn’t have much to offer other than that.

Daniel Tosh
Although Tosh 2.0 has some pretty great moments, Daniel Tosh is another one of those people lots of people who lots of viewers find annoying. He’s also been known to make some pretty offensive remarks, and he’s been almost completely unapologetic about it. In 2012, he even caught a lot of flack for a rap joke he made which got him a lot of negative attention from the press and some of his fans.
Andrew Dice Clay
Andrew Dice Clay has been in the comedy business since the late 70s, and throughout his career he’s earned a considerable amount of fame. However, his career has been full of controversy and several different groups have found him offensively unfunny. He’s even taken a few jabs at other, more well-known comedians, and as you can imagine, that’s definitely not the way to go. At this point in his career, Clay has decided to put the comedy aside and focus on acting.

Adam Sandler
In the beginning of his career, Sandler had some great (and funny) films like Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore. However, over the years, Sandler’s charm has seemed to wear off. Sure, he’s had a few decent projects in more recent years, but he doesn’t seem to be at the top of his game anymore. According to one Internet user, “I do not think he is overrated because you actually need more people liking you than hating you for you to be overrated. This is not the case here. I know there were a few good ones here and there but there are just too many Jack and Jills and Grown Ups for that to justify him as a comedian.” Admit it, you’ve been thinking the same thing.
