The kids were eight, six, and four years old when filming the episode in 2006.

Shawna was a breast cancer patient and her family was falling short of money because of the clinical expenses.

The family reached a stage where they didn't have enough funds for crucial repairs to the house they were living in.

Failing in their own eyes, the family had to request help from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The Extreme Makeover teamed up with Environment Management Consultants (EMC) in October 2006, to destruct and construct a brand new house for the Farina Family in St.Meinrad, Indiana.

The house was built by Jasper-Based Kerstiens Homes and Designs and a lot of volunteers.

Shawna and her family had gone on a vacation to Disney World. When they returned, they saw a new 32 hundred sq. feet house waiting for them with four bedrooms.

Apart from the house, there was a trust fund that heightened the Farina family's happiness.

The fund was raised by the community and till 2006 it was $85,000. The fund was to keep up for the house and for the education of the three children.

Todd Kerstien, President of Kerstiens Homes, was deeply moved by this gesture of the community. He said he was grateful to be a part of this project, his family, and the community.

The house was 134 years old. More than 250 volunteers were involved in the demolition process.

The Farina Family episode aired on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on November 12, 2006. The episode is available for free on YouTube.

The house originally belonged to a Denning family. The house was built in 1872 and Ted and Clara Denning bought the house in 1934.

The couple lived there until 1986. They had four children.

Ted was a teacher, farmer, insurance broker, and tax accountant. Miley, one of his daughters said Ted visited St.Meinrad to watch the house demolish.
