ATHENS, Ga. — Jamon Dumas-Johnson, one of Georgia’s top defensive players, has a fractured forearm, according to initial X-rays, and likely will miss games. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Dumas-Johnson injured his arm on the final play of the third quarter during No. 2 Georgia’s 30-21 win over No. 12 Missouri. He didn’t return to the game and was seen wearing a sling on the sideline.
  • Georgia coach Kirby Smart didn’t think Dumas-Johnson could play through the injury by wearing a club on the arm.
  • Dumas-Johnson tied for the team lead in tackles on Saturday night with seven, despite missing the entire fourth quarter. He entered the game fourth on the team in tackles and was leading the team with 5.5 tackles for loss.

Timetable for returning

It’s unclear, but Smart did not sound optimistic about a quick return when he was asked if Dumas-Johnson could play with the injury.

“I don’t think so,” he said, before adding: “I don’t know that. I’d have to go see. I just got a text with the X-ray on it, and it’s just one of those that I doubt he’s going to be able to. But I don’t know.”

It would be a big loss for Georgia’s defense, although one it has the potential to replace: CJ Allen, a highly touted freshman, has gotten playing time this year, including brief spurts in place of Dumas-Johnson. (Xavian Sorey, a junior inside linebacker, was not with the team on Saturday for personal reasons.)

Georgia did avert another injury on defense: Cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who moved to the slot to defend Luther Burden, went down with back spasms but should be fine, according to Smart.
