Authorities in Clear Creek County said that Humeau and other climbers were at the Black Wall climbing area north of Mount Evans.
Apparently, a male climber who was with Humeau at the time of her fall dialed 911.
The sheriff’s office reported that by the time emergency personnel reached Humeau, she had already succumbed to her wounds.
According to her parents, Humeau enjoyed “the Colorado lifestyle”
Her father, Thierry Humeau, told KDVR, “She was not a daredevil, but she was getting very serious about climbing.”

Her parents both competed in canoeing and kayaking events at the Olympics.
They boasted that their daughter, a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder, shared their spirit of exploration.

Days prior, a seasoned climber also met an untimely end on Capitol Peak near Aspen, Colorado, horrifying hikers along the way.

There was a male companion with Maya who, according to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, dialed 911 after the incident. According to KCNC, help arrived from the Alpine Rescue Team, the Clear Creek sheriff’s deputies, and Flight For Life Colorado.

Many of Maya’s friends left heartfelt messages of condolence in the comments section, calling her a “special soul” who brought them “so much joy and happiness.”
